Years ago (before Managed Care) insurance plans were split into hospitalization (surgery and inpatient) and medical (doctors visits, tests). Blue Cross was one component, Blue Shield the other, I just can't remember which was which. Generally, they go together, you don't get on or the other. With today's managed care plans, the name Blue Cross and Blue Shield is still there, but really meaningless.

Blue cross blue shield ??????

I want to get my own health insurance. My dad pays 89.00 a month is that good? The deductible is 3000 dollars and after the 3000 dollars they pay the rest. If I remove his name from the health insurance will it cost more then 89.00 ?

Well, that depends on a few things. 1. Is he getting the policy from his employer? 2. If it's an individual policy is he the only person on the plan.

The rates are based on age and medical history. These plans sound great but what a lot of people dont understand is that with high deductible plans your premium may be low but you'll be paying a lot for your medical care. For most of these plans the only thing that don't go to the deductible are preventive services I.E. Physicals, yearly mammograms and pap smears, and well baby care. So if you go in for a visit because you're not feeling well, you're looking at 125.00 easy. Lab work at least 300.00.

You'll have a low premium but it's a lot harder to pay 3000.00 for medical care than it sounds. And the 3000.00 is only for providers that are under the blue cross blue shield umbrella. There is most likely a separate ded of 6000.00 for non participating providers.

I know it's a lot of material but make sure you research any plan you want before you apply. Making plan changes isn't easy.

Good luck.
